EWDG Pilot Schools

Seven lessons were selected for the Pilot Program. The Pilot Program was taught in Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Texas. The pilot schools included urban and suburban schools, traditional and home-schooling programs, and the size of the schools varied from seven students to 700 students.

• Assumption Parish School of Religion – St. Louis County (Sp. Needs class)
• Christ, Light of the Nations School – Spanish Lake, Missouri (K- 4)
• Collins Home School – Benton Harbor, Michigan (K-4)
• Hendrick Home School – Grand Rapids, Michigan (K-1)
• Immaculate Heart of Mary School – City of St. Louis, Missouri (K-4)
• Our Lady of Perpetual Help School – Selma, Texas (K-4)
• Pinkowski Home School – Baroda, Michigan – (2-3)
• St. Ann School – Prairie Village, Kansas (K-4)
• St. Anthony School – High Ridge, Missouri (K-4)
• St. Cecilia School – City of St. Louis, Missouri (2)
• St. Dominic Savio School – Affton, Missouri (K-3)
• Joan of Arc School – City of St. Louis, Missouri (K-4)
• St. Paul School – Fenton, Missouri (2,4)

Each pilot teacher received seven printed lessons in the pilot program binder. Each lesson was printed on several pieces of 8 1/2 x 11 paper. They were asked to use their own science and religion textbooks and consciously make the links between science and religion as is called for in each lesson. After each lesson was taught, the teacher was asked to fill out a short evaluation form which asked for frank feedback about the teacher friendliness and the ability of the lessons to assist the student to make the connection. The Pilot Teacher was asked to take photographs or make a videotape of some of the lessons as they were being taught. The project manager observed at least one of the lessons being taught. The pilot program was taught during the 2007-2008 school year.

After the end of the pilot year, the project manager, the Creative Teacher Think Tank participants, and the project’s Advisory Council evaluated the lessons using the pilot teacher evaluations and the project manager’s observations and interviews with each pilot teacher.
